| - I've had a spree of really terrible experiences with the TTC - but this morning really takes the cake.
I usually spend about 14 hours a week on this system & pay the $128 a month for the convenience. This morning however, I gave my pass to my boyfriend as he had to run errands & paid the fare to get on the bus to work. Every morning for the past week, I take the 63 to Ossington station & go across the street to get breakfast at the MacDonalds. This morning, I did just that - forgetting that I did not have my bus pass. After I had gotten my breakfast (which took about 5 min) I attempted to get back into the subway to complete the rest of my trip to work.
Oh no. That is totally illegal in the terms of the TTC - in the fine print on their transfer tickets - it says that one must make one continuous journey & is "not valid for a stop over".
So instead of letting me continue on my trip (using my transfer) like a normal, nice human being, the TTC operator made me pay an extra $3 - because she could not "determine if I had already paid once before". I tried to explain to her that this was a mistake as I usually had a pass and had been doing this for the past week - but no. She would not allow me even a single shred of grace. She promptly went on to demand "who told me I could leave the station" and told me that there was no way she could have known I had already paid. My transfer clearly stated that I paid not even 25 minute prior. She wouldn't relent so I paid another $3. This means that I no longer have money to get home tonight.
So:
1) If I'm expected to read all the fine print on a TTC transfer ticket - then I do expect the service I'm taking to also uphold their end of the bargain. As in following a PRESET TTC SCHEDULE. Earlier this week on the MONDAY - I sat on a bus and waited 25 minutes for a TTC employee to show up to relieve the bus driver (as apparently, the TTC shift changes during RUSH HOUR). On TUESDAY, I waited 10+ minutes at Ossington station for a FREQUENT SERVICE OSSINGTON BUS to SHOW UP (once again, RUSH HOUR).
How could I be expected to follow every single rule if the people I'm dealing with can't even follow the most basic and simple rule .. EVER???
2) Even if I'm wrong in a situation, last time I checked the TTC was a SERVICE and I'm a CUSTOMER. I've never been treated so rudely in my life by anyone else in the SERVICE INDUSTRY. Aside from being treated like a criminal every time I forget a quarter as I'm getting out my $3 - I hardly ever hear a TTC (station - not drivers because for the most part, they're nicer) employee say "Thanks! For taking the time to respect our company & abiding by our rules". If I'm breaking the "rules" - EXPLAIN IT TO ME. THEN LISTEN TO ME AS I'M EXPLAINING TO YOU MY SIDE. We're all human beings and we can all make judgement calls - there's no reason to act like a complete moron because a measly little rule (which makes absolutely no sense anyway) was not followed.
3) On Nov 30th - I went to 5 different TTC Subway Stations .. to attempt to purchase a TTC Pass. If you could imagine - 2 of them (at 11 AM on a SATURDAY) did not have Operators sitting in the booth. 1 of them ran out of bus passes (HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN?????). 1 of them had a broken debit machine. The station where I did buy my pass had an Operator who said "What do you want?" and then when his debit machine malfunctioned & I took my card out (because it prompted me to) he demanded " Why did you take your card out? Put it back in!". Never once did he say "Please" and "Thank you".
I wish I could just let this go and not have to write this type of negative review - but I am SO. FRUSTRATED.
TTC, stop treating your customers like criminals!
