| - Congratulations are due to Ben Put for his honourable second place performance in the Canadian Barista Championships. I had the honour of tasting his wonderful and exquisite creations as a judge when he competed, and won, at the Prairie Regional competition on August 7th of this year. From my own experiences with your talents, it is no wonder to me that you did so well at the national level. Bravo!
Sebastian tells me there is a slate of Ethiopian coffees due to be sprung in their stores. I have a particular weakness for Ethiopian and very much look forward to cupping and reviewing these offerings. I will keep the readers posted shortly.
Recent samplings from their selections, all currently available, include a Honey Processed Gillio Francesa Costa Rican, a Bourbon/Caturra blend from Puerta Verde Estate in Guatemala, and a Kenyan Kandara Co-op from Theri. As I stated earlier, these guys may have a few peers, but if this was all the planet had to offer then somebody up there is certainly taking care of we imbibers of arabica who live in Calgary. Sebastian tells me the Gillio Francesa is all gone, pity, but such is the world of specialty coffee.
Two weeks ago, Phil and Sebastian opened the doors to their recent addition at Chinook Centre. Finally a good, in fact superb, cup of coffee is available in a shopping centre. The establishment is wonderfully laid out and homey and equipment buffs will be impressed by the high tech nature right down to temperature controlled water spouts that even weigh the water. However one goes for the coffee not to be dazzled by sophisticated chrome bedecked coffee making equipment. The coffee is unbelievably good as expected.
They have a full compliment of home preparation equipment from unbeatable hand Zassenhaus coffee grinders to exotic vacuum coffee makers. And yes, they sell bags of their world class coffee.
This is a true cafe, not a kiosk, and is a wonderful place to unwind and escape the humdrum of the mall. Highly Recommended.
