| - While the competition for newest and most trendy cuisine rages in various downtown Madison, several restaurants prefer to languish in the baser menu options that give Wisconsin it's identity. One of these is The Tipsy Cow, which features burgers using the local Knoche's ground beef for a signature local taste that is getting wider recognition. On my last outing, I tried the Tilapia sandwich, which at $7 turned out to be an outstanding value. The fillet size was much larger and more flavorful than the last attempt I made at a different venue. Sadly, the waitress forgot about my onion rings until the sandwich was consumed. Under normal circumstances, I may have asked to waive the charge, but the sandwich was so good that I didn't care. FYI- the onion rings practically have the thickness and fat content of donuts, so if you are watching your intake, consider yourself warned.
UPDATE-On a recent Friday night return visit, the place was packed, but I took a chance on the Fish Fry. One hour later, no food and I was outta there.
