  • I've dealt with Animal Friends multiple times over the past several years and it's been very positive. I volunteered there during my senior year of high school by handling and helping with the cats. Everyone was very nice. Both of my family's cats are from Animal Friends. The only thing about adoptions that I would say is inconvenient is that all members of the household must be present. This means parents, siblings, or anyone else who lives in the house. I understand that this is to make sure that everyone is aware that a new animal is coming home and is okay with the animal, but it can be difficult to get everyone together at once. They are adamant that everyone must be there, even if you've already adopted from them. Most recently, I took my boyfriend's family's feral-ish cat to Animal Friends to be neutered and vaccinated. Kailey (sp?) made the process very smooth and easy. When the vet found that the cat had an eye infection he was sent home with prescription eye drops at no extra charge. The only thing I will say about that whole process was that it was difficult to get ahold of someone. The phone number listed on the website goes directly to an answering machine where you leave your questions/information. Someone called me back a week after I left a message but did not answer my specific questions or leave a number. I ended up calling the front desk number, asked for whoever was in charge of the spay/neuter program (which was Kailey) and finally got her personal voicemail and got the ball rolling. It took a total of two weeks to get in touch with a real person and schedule the appointment. The shelter itself is gorgeous and always seems clean and well lit. When I volunteered there all of the cats were well fed, clean, and handled by volunteers daily. Cats who are good with others are rotated through living in large community rooms with household furniture and other cats. Volunteers can take cats living in cages to other rooms to play with and groom them. The dogs, though I didn't see much of that area, appeared to be in similar good shape. Volunteers take the dogs outside into extensive, grassy, fenced in play areas.
