  • I was REALLY excited to see Britney for her first performance of the year (1/2/2016) and I bought my sister-in-law and I tickets to take it in after a few weeks on the road hiking, thinking it would be the ultimate way to decompress. Lip-syncing be damned, we were going to see THE QUEEN. I splurged for the pit tickets, did my research to figure out what side would be best to be on, and created a countdown calculator and playlist to amp the excitement. Right before the show started we met a guy in the pit who was SO excited and I was SO happy to be by him. This wasn't his first show, i think it was his third, and I was so excited to feed off his energy. This night was going to be magical. Except the last thing he said was "it's hard to dance and hold your camera still for taking video" and I thought ... that's weird. Then an announcement to put away your cell phones or recording devices was made "out of respect for the performer and the people around you" and I was super happy to hear that because who doesn't obey a booming audio recording? That's what made The Wizard of Oz so powerful. However, no one listened. At some points it felt like EVERYONE had their phones out taking pictures and RECORDING the show. I didn't pay 450$ (after fees for two tickets) to make a bootleg video. I came to dance and celebrate the new year with Brit! Despite the guards in the pit, not a single one made an effort to put a stop to the video recording which was extremely distracting and I tried my best to overcome my disappointment by shelling out more money for more drinks but it didn't work. I did see security remove a couple of girls near the end of the show, but I think it was for drunken antics. This is a bummer because I'm going back in April for a bachelorette party and I was going to suggest getting a VIP table, but would rather pass. Cell phones take you out of the moment and limit your view. At one point, I found I had a better view looking through a person's screen than at the actual stage. That's pathetic. Hopefully The Axis steps up and actually enforces rules against taking videos or pictures. I can't emphasize how ridiculous and abundant the amount of cell phones out were.
