| - What a beautiful resort this is.
Spent last weekend (Fri & Sat night) here with my SO to celebrate our anniversary and it was really fabulous. The grounds are absolutely stunning. Lush landscaping, water & fountain features, ambiance in spades, and awe-inspiring views of Camelback Mountain. This is the perfect place to celebrate love & romance.
I'll get the negatives out of the way first:
I think the carpets and color scheme inside the rooms are due for an upgrade / some modernization. I'm not a fan of all the brown décor. It seemed a little dated.
One thing I loved? The bathroom in our room. The travertine floors are gorgeous and the bathtub and shower in our room were enormous!
Unfortunately though, when my SO booked what was described as a "Queen" room, there was no indication we'd have double beds. Reservation was booked on amoa.com, so perhaps they need to coordinate with the Omni to ensure their descriptions are accurate.
At the very least, one would presume that a queen room includes a queen bed OR two queen beds. The beds in our room (room 923) were slightly smaller than queen size unfortunately.
We made the best of it though. We slept in one bed the first night and in the other bed the second night. HA!
Speaking of beds, not to be "indelicate", but ummm holy squeaky ass beds Batman! The amount of creaking these beds make when you're engaging in certain activities is alarming. Isn't there some way the Omni could mitigate this?
Obviously this is a couples-oriented resort. The place screams romance and intimacy from the moment you set foot on the property. I'm sure the powers that be are aware of how couples "bond" and that their resort is the prime place for said "bonding" to take place, so perhaps they could repair or replace the squeaky beds/bed frames?
Omni: If you need people to test each bed in each room at the resort to test how loud it is, we are available on weekends for a small consulting fee.
Let us help you.
I also have a bone to pick with the valet situation. When charging $22 a night for valet parking, one would expect that their car would be parked in the shade or in the underground garage they have on site, correct?
Well that isn't the case. When we hit up the valet for our car after our first night to go out to lunch, everything inside was PIPING HOT and I almost burned my bum on the seat! Even my interactive screen on the dashboard wouldn't operate because the interior was TOO HOT. My car temperature read was over 120 degrees because they parked it right in the sun overnight.
That really ticked me off.
We decided to self-park underground the next night and if this may be a concern for you, I'd advise you to do the same or specifically request that they park your vehicle underground when you valet. It is too hot in this damn desert to have the valet parking your car in the hot ass sun for 24 hours in the summertime.
Come on guys, be reasonable.
The last critique I have is for the weekend breakfast buffet they serve at Pardo, the on-site restaurant. For $29 per person, I would expect the food quality to be better. While the fruit was exquisite, fresh and plentiful, the eggs, potatoes, and breads/pastries were sadly mediocre. I tried a croissant and some banana bread and both were very, very dry, likely because they leave these items out to air with no covering.
Maybe put something nice, decorative and functional on top of these foods that are prone to drying out when exposed to air for long periods of time? A glass cake topper or something? That way guests can see what's inside and the food remains covered to preserve freshness.
Just a thought.
The host, Frank was stellar though. Such a warm, friendly and affable guy. He WILL treat you like family when you arrive so be prepared. He referred to me as his granddaughter, which I as a black girl talking to an elderly white man thought was hilarious and cute.
All in all, we had a lovely time. The staff was great and we so enjoyed the evening entertainment at MBar Saturday night. The band was amazing, did some fab covers of current songs (they were young guys, can't remember their name) and the drinks were great!
I'd definitely recommend the Omni resort to others and look forward to visiting in the future.
