| - I had been wanting to do something with my hair for a long time. It's always been very plain and simple: just medium length black hair, never dyed, and rarely ever even curled or styled in any way. I'm a minimalist person, but I really needed so change, so I decided it would be fun to get some colour and add some dimension to my hair. When I got here, I was nervous because it was the first time I've ever done anything with my hair. I showed Jim a few pictures, but I told him I was on a budget. Since my hair is so dark, he said it would be $140 to get to the shade I wanted it, which I found appalling because I am on a student budget. I told him I only had $100 and asked him to work whatever magic he could on that budget. He pulled through and gave me the colour and dimension to my hair that I wanted. At first I was a little disappointed because I couldn't really tell the difference in room lighting and when the hair was still a bit wet. He noticed I was confused at what I was paying for, so he took me outside with a mirror to show me what it looked like in the sunlight. It was pretty spectacular. I still find it pretty appalling that getting some undertones for Asian hair would cost $100, but I don't trust Asian hair styling to hairdressers who are not familiar with working with Asian hair. It's just not the same texture. I've also had friends who had a lot of problem dyeing their hair because it is really hard to bleach the black hair appropriately and get the dye right. Maybe the dye that Jim uses is special and therefore warrants the cost. Anyway, I'm very happy with the job he did, and will be sporting this look for a good a long while.
