  • This is the only hotel I've ever walked out of... My husband and I arrived to a busy and cramped lobby. We were rushed through the signing process to stay in the room and they advised us of a necessary $50 hold on our credit card for incidentals (which is standard) but that brought the transaction total up to $260 for one night... so let me tell you what that bought us: While walking to our motel room we had to drag our bags across a bumpy tiled sidewalk. It was bad enough we had to walk across a couple parking lots to get to our room but the idiot who built the sidewalk made it out of 10" tiles that were bumpy and beveled so as to create so much racket you can't talk to the person next to you while you wheel your bags along. Poor planning but no big deal... As I stepped in to the motel room I was pleased with the layout. It had the appearance of a small suite with a kitchenette, living room, bathroom, and separate bedroom. I went to set my purse on the coffee table when I noticed something stuck to the couch. It was an amber-colored substance that resembled what comes out of children's noses or possibly something left behind after some insect metamorphosis... I didn't want to touch it but it looked sticky. I don't often sit on the couches in hotel rooms anyways so I moved along. The bedroom was a nice size but had little lighting so I went to turn on the beside lamp. It didn't work. My next idea was to open the curtains to allow some natural light in. I couldn't help but notice small holes in the curtains that were probably left behind by more hungry insects (maybe the thing that once lived on the couch?) but I was truly disgusted when I saw what the curtains were hiding. The track for the window was filled with dust and insect carcasses and the windows themselves didn't exactly seal noise, light, or air from the outside. We were just around the corner from the pool and now that the noise from the bags had stopped I was aware of just how much the sounds echoed in to our room. They probably have a quiet time but I doubt I'll sleep in this room anyway. I looked at the bathroom next and found it to be quite average. There was lots of space and it actually appeared to be clean (I didn't investigate much). I couldn't quite get my mind off of all the bugs I was imagining crawling through the room so I went back to check the mattress for bed bugs. I am happy to report that the mattress appeared bed-bug free but on my journey I found more insect-bitten holes in and a large tear in the blankets. This was the last straw. As a caveat I will say I once stayed in a hotel in Valdez, Alaska that I was afraid to get undressed in... but it was only $70 during peak salmon season so I got what I paid for. For the fist time, my husband and I walked out of this hotel room at the Inn & Suites and got a refund on our room (after a little bit of an argument from the staff). We went to the Holiday Inn across the street and were much happier.
