| - Because I have eaten at Hayashi's sushi bar and teppanyaki-style grills, I will review them separately, because they are totally different experiences, in and of themselves.
Sushi bar:
Pros: upscale, trendy surroundings, bartender was pleasant and helpful. Lots of choice on sushi rolls; unfortunately, most of these were not raw, but cooked, deep fried, baked, etc.
Cons: like a reviewer below me, the tuna roll was LITTERED with sinewy strings, making for a very unpleasant texture. The sushi was served room temperature and the quality was not at all what I expect. Basic rolls run $6-8 off happy hour, pay $10+ for specialty rolls.
Teppanyaki-style grill:
First off, please save yourself a dime and the space in your refrigerator: SHARE YOUR DINNER ENTREES. I took my grandmother for lunch and for the two of us, we spent $60. Entrees are pricey, but can be shared for a small fee. Appetizers are really unnecessary unless you have a large group or are VERY hungry as the dinner entrees come with plenty of meat and veggies. My chef seemed experienced, albeit young, and provided lots of flair and entertainment. Obvious cons are that the food is very pricey and you may have to wait awhile until the seating around your grill has been filled.
To sum....
Sushi: skip it, unless you are desperate and really have nowhere else to go.
Teppanyaki: go for a special date, anniversary, etc. Don't bring young children as the dramatic flame surging from the grill and the clanging of knives makes them scream and cry for a half hour on end ;)
