| - Been going here for a few years now. First time I went, it was 'eh', it was disappointing. However...the following year I went back and brought friends and found that it had improved! Been coming here ever since. (Heard that someone else bought the 'screams' part and has made it what it is now? not sure if it's true, just passing on info)
There's some good stuff here. The ambiance is fantastic to begin with, so add a few decorations and people and it's a pretty easy win. They have improved over the few years too. The props and costumes seem to continue to improve. This year, the lighting was a lot better and there were some added special effects that were nice. What happened to the window projections from years past? they were gone this year. :(
The short desert walk the one maze was waaaaaay better lit, had a few more decorations and a couple scares in it. Better Job!
The "Haunted walk" up to the entrance was better, better lit, had a few more decorations and the same amount of scares as years past but was easier to follow!
Good job I wasn't tripping over rocks! :)
This year, 2016, seems to be all about the clowns though. Every walk thru had clowns. :(
Now, clowns in real life bother me...but they don't in haunted houses. (picts included)
(Except that one year that had the little clown on the little tricycle that started at the end of the really dark back lit hall- remember THAT?- and rode really fast toward your while hitting the horn...creeped the 'ef' outta me!) But clowns in scare houses are generally not that scary, to me. If you hate clowns, THIS is your year! If you don't like clowns, THIS is your year!
Stopped in to listen to the guy tell ghost stories in the Opera House. 'eh' :( good stories, just felt uninteresting. It was good history, but then I felt trapped...there was only a couple of us there and I didn't want us to get up and leave, leaving the host by himself. A few people got up and walked out earlier so I was feeling trapped. :( Stories could be told somehow different? Not sure. The history and ghost history just needs a few tweeks in the showmanship. Not sure. The stories themselves are great it's just the delivery was dry. Maybe it was because we just left the saloon where we watched the magic show over a beer.
Glad to see 'Jason' back!! I don't know who that is in there, but the guy is huge! I'm 6"1' and he towers over me! (picts included)
I like to make a group of friends event for this and go every year. Great place for first timers and out of towners; A couple reasons:
1. The place is fun. It's just fun, even when you don't find it scary. The workers are fun and very nice and more than willing to do picture ops if it's not busy! It's more fun if you bring friends! Especially screamers! I always bring 1 or 2 screamers just to make me laugh. ;) First timers, get there early and stop for dinner and/or drinks at the restaurant/bar by the hotel! (hotel is kind of pricey to justify staying there, but I'm cheap)
2. If you consider the walk thrus vs price (there was only 4 this year, but one is very large), it's well worth the price. (Did I mention that I'm cheap?)
