  • I think I've been to all of the Gordon Ramsay restaurants in Vegas. For the $$$$ and name of GR, I was expecting a fine dining experience. Guess my expectations were a little too high. We made reservations for our party of 5 a few weeks in advance. The hostess that walked us to our table gave us the option of taking the stairs or the elevator.... Immediately I knew we would not be dining in the "main" room and was slightly annoyed. Why would I want to visit an upscale steakhouse with a beautiful ambiance and be shoved in an upstairs side room? One of the reasons why we chose to visit GR Steak was because of how beautiful the interior of the main dining room looked... Annoying. SERVICE: Needs work all around. The hostess asked if we were celebrating anything special. Our friends told the hostess that my hubby and I were celebrating an anniversary. We were not given menus by the hostess, so we awkwardly chatted for a few minutes before another guy came from around the corner to deliver the menus. A few minutes after that, our server finally arrived with the drink menu (iPad) and introduced himself. He congratulated us on our anniversary (nice) and gave us some time to peruse the menu. We ordered drinks and appetizers and our server brought out the infamous meat cart and explained all of the cuts of meat. I found it odd that when we were given our menus and introduced to the meat cart, no one ever cared to state that the Beef Wellington dish would take 45 minutes to prepare... we didn't find out this tidbit of information until AFTER ordering our food. They should probably inform diners when they give the menus or when presenting the meat cart. I guess it does say it somewhere in the menu, but who really reads when they are socializing with their company? Also, for a $$$$ they should be dropping this knowledge to their diners. Our bread plates were still sitting on the table when our entrees arrived-- kind of awkward to try to make room with no room on the table. By the end of our meal, our empty plates sat for awhile before anyone came to clear them. I would say these small details need work. Also, at the end of our meal our server wished us happy anniversary again, but nothing else. Most places (even upscale like Morimoto, Joel Robuchon, etc.) offer some type of celebratory dessert, favor.... something? I guess my question is, why ask then? BEEF WELLINGTON: The 45 minute Beef Wellington was SUCH a letdown. First, I ordered the Wellington for 1 and my friends ordered a Beef Wellington for 2. Somehow, their meal looked smaller than mine! We even questioned the staff about the portion size and they insisted that we were given the correct plates. Do yourself a favor and don't order for 2-- order the plates individually. Upon cutting into the wellington, the entire shell completely fell off. The meat was tender, but the overall dish was tasteless and under seasoned. I could not differentiate between the different components of the wellington-- so one dimensional and lacking any type of texture. The puree and root vegetables also lacked seasoning-- not what I expect for $57. AMERICAN EYE: My husband had the American Eye (8 oz. Wagyu wrapped in pork) and that was phenomenal. I actually switched plates with him halfway through the meal. Perfectly cooked medium and the pork wrapped around it was so gluttonously good. SIDES: We shared the Spinach, Potato Puree, Cauliflower, Mac & Cheese, and Brussel Sprouts. I don't do truffle, so the mac & cheese was a no-go. The Cauliflower and Brussel Spouts were good-- both had a crunchy bite and nice char. We ordered the spinach gratinĂ©ed with parmesan cheese-- definitely a good choice to pair with steak. I am surprised they charge $7 for steak sauces. I am paying $$$$ for the meal, you're going to upcharge for SAUCE? Pass. I'll get another drink with that $7. DRINKS: Pimms Cup-- YES. Reminded me of my trip to London and very refreshing. Beautiful presentation. Overall, we had an A-OK time. We went to Tom Colicchio's Craftsteak last year and that was wayyyyy better in terms of food, service, ambiance, and overall experience. I guess I'll stick to Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill across the street and save myself and my friends $600.
