| - It's better than most grocery stores in Pittsburgh based on volume [literally; the volume of the building is... enormous], but I wouldn't say it's the best Giant Eagle (which, for the record, is the one behind what used to be known as Village Square Mall, near Best Buy, in Bethel Park, despite its abysmal parking lot design), and even the best Giant Eagle will never be a Whole Foods, Wegman's, or Nugget Market.
Given those caveats, I will give the Settler's Ridge store lots of credit for having a Huge veggie section -- and way to change it up by throwing it in the middle of the store, front and center! Well done. Now, just make sure you're not leaving lukewarm buckets of butter lettuce, in standing water, out in the skylight sun patches for several hours, like I saw last Friday afternoon...
There's an impressive meat counter. Ground lamb gets a thumbs up, and having live mint plants gets another.
There's a Whole Foods-ish prepared foods section of the store, and... and... and... they sell Wine. And Beer. In a Pennsylvania grocery store. Someone pinch me.
And oddly, they also sell Bare Escentuals and Smashbox cosmetics in the personal care department. Unexpected, but nice? I guess? I did not spend much time investigating the rest of that area but I'd imagine it's equally extensive.
A good effort, Giant Eagle. I'm sure I'll be back on my next visit to the family.
