CATFISH!
After being prompted by a friend to check this place out for months and being in the area, I decided to give it a shot. Although I've enjoyed catfish before, I've never really thought of seeking out a place for it, nor is it something I would usually order. What a fool I've been.
Figured it would an unidentifiable white fish with an overbearing batter to cover up the low quality product... fortunately, I was wrong. I ordered the 2 piece spicy catfish which comes w a few shrimp and fries.
It took about 10 minutes to get my food which was a good sign since it was obviously going to be fresh. The portion was huge and looked great when I picked it up.
2 really big fish filets w a golden brown crust. When I bit into a piece it was piping hot and the flavor of the fish jumped out. It was really good. The spicy crunch on the outside was awesome and just the right amount. Not too much breading but enough to crisp it up.
Fries were cold as they had been waiting for the fish (thus only 4 stars) and the butterflied fried shrimp with it were great too.
It's a dive for sure and a bit seedy inside (these 2 me are positive traits) and will be back for sure.
There was another guy there who said he has been eating at Papa Joe's every Friday for a year....I asked what else he has had and he looked at me like I was crazy. Said, "I've had the catfish and there is no reason to eat anything else ever"
I can't say that I disagree with him. Go and don't be sneaky...order the catfish and enjoy.
