  • I just want to start off by saying I am a big fan of macarons, so I might be a little biased in my opinion. ***Readers beware***. I just finish my editorial essay piece and wanted to unwind a little and found myself craving for macarons. My first thought was Butter Avenue, here I come. I wanted to visit the one on Lawrence and Yonge, but i found out that this location is not open on Monday. I was like "No....." Then, I realized that they also have a downtown location. It is around 20 minutes bus ride from where I was today. I didn't care because all I can think about is macarons. Once I checked their opening hour, I started my macarons hunting journey. Prior to entering the store, I realized this neighbourhood does not seem to match the sophisticated style of Butter Avenue. There was construction going on and dust everywhere. I don't think thst goes well for business since I used to learn Feng Shui. Anyhow, my mind was just thinking "MAC-CAR-RON". As I entered the door, I was immediately greeted by two friendly waitresses. One was particular friendly and I really appreciated her advice as I was dumbfounded by the incredible selections of macarons they have. All looks so good from the sparkling clean glass display cases. Their choice of pearl white background colour really accented the colourful macarons. I particular wanted to have the lemon poppyseed macarons. They looked so adorable. I really couldn't make up my mind about tart choice though and I asked for some advice from the waitress. She recommended the St Honore Earl Grey tart ($7.95); however, I was debating to have either the lemon merigue tart ($5.45) or the Earl Grey tart. My final decision was the Earl Grey Tart, it has two full sized macarons (earl grey and lemon poppyseed) on top of the tart as decoration. And this kills three birds with one stone, and this decision was kind of a no brainer. Two of my favourite macarons with a tart based filled with earl grey pastry cream. It was so good and the latte I ordered was a perfect compliment to the tart. Oh yeah, I forgot about the basement dungeon decor. Well, it is not a dungeon. Lol! It was more like relaxing lounge with dim lighting and light jazz music. The washroom door was kind of built into the wall and looked pretty cool. Going back to the tart, I absolutely loved it. The macarons were so flavourful, soft and delicate with perfect balance in sweetness. I was in such a good mood after that and all my stress were gone. After I finished my tart and latte, I ordered half a dozen macarons since I was still really craving macarons. Lemon poppyseed was definitely the star of all macarons in my mind. The bright yellow colour with polka dot poppyseed with a lemony citrusy filling. I will definitely come back for more.
