| - I have been going to the Zoo since I was a child in elementary school..you know? field trips and all that.
Anyways, I find it has always had something to offer, I see it's a great place for families with young kids, and it's very spacious with lots of walking, so it's also great exercise.
It's a place you'll want to bring a camera to, because you could see everything from peacocks on the loose to dinosaurs (up to October 2010 they were anamatronic dinosaurs, too!).
The admission is about $20/adult, unless you have one of those annual passes, which could be a wise investment if you & your family frequent the Zoo often.
And on the tragic subject of animal deaths: I have seen a few times in the news in the last few years, the Calgary Zoo has had to take a lot of heat for the passing away of an animal. I agree it's tragic when that happens, but please understand death is part of the "circle of life" and that the zookeepers are not personally responsible so they shouldn't have to be put in a position of having to defend themselves.
Other than that, the Zoo always offers something interesting, such as a variety of buildings with a theme, such as the African Safari which is nice & misty like a rainforest. Also, the butterfly farm is a lot fo fun, because if you stand still they sit on your skin & it tickles lol.
I have yet to see ZooLites, and Zoo Year's Eve...but I deliberately hang back because I'm a baby when it comes to the cold ;)
