Oh Go Transit. You're kinda the worst but alas I don't know what I'd do without you. Blurg.
Growing up in the suburbs, the Go was my only way in and out of the city. Concerts, day trips, etc. When I was interning one summer downtown I took it twice a day. Now that I live in the city, I take it to go home for the holidays and such.
Needless to say I've taken to Go A LOT A LOT A LOT A LOT!
Here's what you need to know:
- Arrive early-ish if you don't already have a ticket (such as a 2 ride or a 10 ride or a month pass) to stamp. Lines can be short, but they can also be long. And missing your train is a HUGE bummer. I can't even count the number of times I've had to wait at the station for an hour waiting for the next train.
- The trains only run until roughly midnight, depending on the route. If you miss the last train? You're kinda stuck. Some routes have buses but I can't stress enough not to depend on them. If you must get home/be somewhere YOU CANNOT MISS THE LAST TRAIN. Just don't.
- If the train gets derailed or there's an issue, you're stuck. Sometimes they'll run a bus if you're lucky. But usually? Stuck.
- Don't not buy a ticket, cus if you get caught it's $200. And that's not fun.
