When we showed up our first afternoon they didn't have a room ready. We didn't make a scene and calmly went to the restaurant/bar. They didn't seem to think that we were a priority and, hours later, still didn't have us a room. That sucked. If we had kicked and screamed they would have found us something. An upgrade, if they had to. We were nice, and they took advantage. But I can get them back with a two star review :-) The other hotel services themselves were fine: decent room, clean sheets, and all that.
This is where we stayed when we were first looking for an apartment in Charlotte. We came over the weekend and in those mid-recession/pre-Epicentre days the city was dead. Sunday morning you could look down Tryon and see nary a soul. It was weird, and not comforting in an apartment hunt. It also gave the Omni a post-apocalyptic vibe, which I try not to hold against it. Since then I have seen lively events (Proms, weddings, drunken frat/sorority mixers) that prove my first experience was an exception.
Just know that you are paying for location rather than over-the-top luxury. You literally cannot get closer to the center of town.
