| - I took two friends to the Ducky Tour. One was from Australia and one from Cleveland.
It was the first day they ran in the Spring. (3/26/16) Our driver was Brian and our tour guide was Suzanne. Both were very cordial, funny and kept the whole bus entertained! Yes, there was a plethora of Duck jokes but everyone played along. You could hear them well even though we were in the very back of the bus.
I've lived in Pittsburgh my whole life and found out things i never knew! It really took you thru downtown, then to the North Side, and a kinda scary ride down the pedestrians path to the water. Then back to Station Square. It took about an hour. All the while we were quacking away at people. Our bus never stopped quacking but no one got annoyed! The whole town seemed to quack AT us to get us to quack back.
TIP: The back only holds six people. It was a chilly day when we went so I wanted us to get in the back so the sun could hit us. We were first in line so we got it. My friend from Australia is very tall so we sat back there so he could stretch his legs out after we got started. If you are tall, you want these coveted seats. We had a 1:30 start and I got there, paid, and got in line at 12:50 to get the #1 spot.
The price was $22 for adults and $15 for kids. It was a GREAT way to get the 'flavor' of Pittsburgh for my out of town friends.
After the tour i drove my friends thru South Side and then over to the Strip. They really got the feel of Pittsburgh this way.
Overall, the Ducky Tour is worth the money. You DO get a 15% off coupon to go to the Hard Rock Cafe after and to get 10% off merchandise. We did not do either.
Worst part: to get reservations (which you SHOULD make), you have to call, leave your name, number, time and how many folks you want to be on the tour and have them call you back? So weird why they wouldn't hire a 'live' person to answer the phone. I did get my call back within 15 minutes but they fill up quick so definitely make a reservation. And they WILL call back!
We loved it all so we tipped the narrator. I asked her if they split the tips and she said yes. They did NOT keep suggesting tipping at all. In fact, I had to ask her if tipping was appropriate. She said she gets an hourly rate and they split the tips. We gave them $10 for the 3 of us.
Hope this all helps! Quack, quack!
