So, despite the throngs of tourists, suburbanites and (yes - I'll admit) time-pressed urbanity who appear here on Saturdays and Friday nights, the St Lawrence really is best place for fresh and local produce and treats in the Downtown. Honestly, I do most of my grocery shopping here on Saturday mornings or the occasional evening (though I work up north and consequently can hardly make it down before closing time) and this place still functions as a local resource. If you live in the area, odds are you shop there, and this I think contributes somewhat to its authenticity. The only place that I've seen that does this on the same scale and is comparable ( ok - and a bit better) is the Boqueria in Barcelona. Everything else I've seen in the places I've been too, doesn't compare.
