  • I lived in the Wellington Apartment building from 2013-2014. There are several reasons I'm giving Sterling Land a 1-start rating. TLDR PROS - Pretty building, decent sized room, good location. CONS 1. No respect or privacy, they come and go as they please without notice. 2. They do NOT give you 24 hours of notice before showing your apartment, and if they can't catch you on the phone, they'll show it without your consent. 3. The apartment was NOT in livable condition when I moved in. Rust all over the kitchen, dirt everywhere else. 4. BUT, don't worry, they will take a ridiculous amount of money out of your security deposit unfairly and be rude when you make inquiries about it. 5. They really couldn't care less about you once you sign their contract. They just want to get as much money out of you as possible. *Wouldn't recommend this management company to a friend. Or a stranger. Or anyone. --- 1. No respect or privacy, they come and go as they please without notice. Let's start with the time I was in the shower (a female living alone), and two men just walked into my apartment, while I was still in the shower. Next, I was sleeping, and they barged in after knocking once and not giving me a chance to answer. It literally got to the point that I would put the deadbolt on to avoid having them walk in on me while I was sleeping. The worst was when I walked into my apartment, one of the kitchen lights that I never used was on, so I literally thought someone had broken into my apartment. It wasn't until I noticed that they had changed out my sink fixture without ever telling me they were going to do that, that I realized what had happened. 2. They do NOT give you 24 hours of notice before showing your apartment, and if they can't catch you on the phone, they'll show it without your consent. For a month while they were showing my apartment, I received a phone call every day, sometimes multiple times a day, to show my apartment within the next hour. At times, when I was unable to answer my phone, because I have a life, they would leave a message saying they were showing the apartment in 15 minutes, and to call them back if I had a problem with that. When I called and complained about this, they basically told me there was nothing they could do about it and insinuated that that's what happens when you don't resign for another year. 3. The apartment was NOT in livable condition when I moved in. I couldn't properly close my bathroom or closet doors because of the disgusting number of paint layers on them. The kitchen sink fixture was rusty and discolored. The sink was gross looking and discolored (I later got charged out of my security deposit for this even though I worked all year to get it to a sanitary/clean level). The kitchen cabinets had rust all over them. It was disgusting and I didn't use them all year because of how dirty they were. The bathroom radiator had a thick layer of dust on the backside of it. Some of the bathroom tiles were completely cracked and broken. The entire floor was dirty--I swept and mopped twice to get it to a decent level of cleanliness. 4. But, don't worry, they will take a ridiculous amount of money out of your security deposit unfairly and be rude when you make inquiries about it. Cathleen was extremely rude and insinuated I never cleaned my kitchen sink. When I tried to explain that the sink was discolored even when I moved in and that I had tried to Clorox it all year, Cathleen said "Well if you tried to Clorox it even once it wouldn't look this way". Rude, and disrespectful. I would highly recommend taking pictures and videos after cleaning your apartment while moving out as well as when you first move in. *Do yourself a favor, and rent from anyone else in Pittsburgh but them.
