  • Simply the best after hours party there is downtown. That's not saying much since there are FEW afterhours. Technically I would give this an a-ok- but it gets a boost since it really is the only club, except for the Guv that will TRULY stay open until dawn. There are only a handful of afterhours- Film (possibly closed now), Footwork, Guv, and this place. Film is closed, I think (and sketch- read my review- (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/the-film-lounge-toronto) Footwork is THE BEST but closes at likt...5-6am depending on the DJ/night (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/footwork-toronto#hrid:xtONvYr_fL5Jadx7_EcTiA) The Guv is just too warehouse-like.. I like smaller dungeons to get my dance on: (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/the-guvernment-toronto#hrid:ccZ5JiBJaWp_YGR3ENt1GQ) So that leaves Comfort Zone. Now let me tell you more details: The good: -They have the notorious sunset to sunrise parties- so dance until it's light outside- and you won't even know it unless you go outside to take a breather or a smoke in the pit in the back. -People dance. There are places where people don't properly dance- but you will get some legit dancers here. -It's a small basement place- they have the main dance floor, and a few loungey areas in the corners- the space is cut up really well and intelligently to make sure that people don't mosh in one big pit- which can get dangerous. The meh: -The sound system. I think once upon a time when CZ was THE place back in the day the sound system used to be amazing..but I think as other places have updated their systems... CZ hasn't. It doesn't reach all the depths of the room- but that's ok b/c sometimes I just like to chill in the back and chat with friends. -The bouncers: I personally only had good experiences with the bouncers- think they are nice and just doing their job- which is to be not particularly nice to some of the drunk/high RUDE people. But many people have stated here that the bouncers are rough and mean. I think that if they are rough and mean to you- you might deserve it. .. just sayin... -You have to be careful with some people here... you know what I'm talking about..there are some people here that can get violent depending on what they are on...but a lot of people are just nice and wanna dance. The Bad: -Picking up on the last point.. this is the only afterhours where there will be MORE "hard-drugs" than soft drugs. Meaning that I have never been offered more illicit substances (and consequently had to lecture people about how bad it is for them) in my life than here... CZ attracts the ones who take a variety of substances... and it is more abundant here than any other after-hours. (Footwork will have e, M and maybe weed, alcohol fuelling the night)- the Guv will have a range but not more one drug than anything else. CZ... will have the sketchiest stuff... blow, heroine, crystal meth... and on most nights I'm assuming you will see what I see -- someone REQUIRING resuscitation... (please PLEASE DON'T BE THAT PERSON!!!) -Due to the nature of some of the substances here... people can act out and even their dancing might like.. interfere with your space/ or dance bubble. There are people who have knocked into me kind of in a harsh way because they were in their dance-zone and aren't mindful of their space. -Like the Guv and Film- this can become a pickup scene.. and it just gets kind of gross..unless you're into that. I'm not. In fact, Footwork is the only place where people are just plain nice, no hidden intentions.. Guv, Film, and CZ, people WILL ask for your number and kind of get physical in your space if they want to dance with you..which is not cool- BUT it's not as bad as any entertainment club-dist club. So bear that in mind. Plain and simple- the bads aren't even really bad as long as you are somewhat sober, you stay safe and keep to familiar people. Yes, it's sketchy...but to be honest, I feel safer here than I would at any frat-type establishment i.e. Bruswick or Madison. Yeah, it's like.. "drug-sketch"- but it's not "White masculinity waiting to unleash their raping- intentions on you)
