First let me say that on average, I dislike cupcakes. Weird, I know. I bake a lot and love the hell out of layered cake (IT'S NOT THE SAME THING), but cupcakes traditionally drive me nuts because I view them as dry fad items with a poor cake-to-icing ratio that doesn't make each bite even and balanced.
Back to the story. I stopped by this place for a friend's birthday, and I absolutely love it. The sweet girl working behind the counter was so unbelievably nice. Service was great, and she was very honest about which ones tasted best and why.
I got two red velvets (which the recipients absolutely enjoyed) and got the Rolo. While on the sweeter side, this is easily one of the best cupcakes I have ever eaten. The filling was rich and the perfect consistency (which surprised me nicely), and the cake wasn't too sweet to balance it. The chocolate ganache on top was a nice touch. With a glass of milk or a cup of coffee, this would have been perfect. In fact, I was sad when the whole thing was gone.
Military discounts here, and the groupon is for the minis. The minis are so itty bitty that I say you should just get the full-sized ones since you'll be wanting a full-sized cupcake after eating a mini.
Definitely worth trying. I believe it's $39 for a dozen and $3.50 each. Cupcakes are simple and done very well. A keeper for the cross check!
