| - Hubby and I, with a bad case of cabin fever, ventured out for a good old Wisconsin fish fry to warm our spirits. Thought we'd try out the 5100 Bar & Grill. New spot for us but recommended by a friend.
Arrived about 6:00, expecting to wait. To our surprise, were taken to a seat right away. Unfortunately, it was in the bar which was crowded and VERY loud and noisy. NOT what we were looking for. Asked for another table and we were immediately taken to the banquet area. Got our menus right away, but waited over 10 minutes for waitress to come to our table. 3 other large table's orders were taken during this time and they were seated AFTER us! We were about ready to leave since they didn't seem too interested in us.
The waitress suddenly realized we weren't being helped and came to our table, very apologetic. We decided to stay put and place our order. Ordered the fish fry, baked and fried, and my husband asked for 1 piece of smelt to try. Smelt can be very good or very bad and wanted to check theirs out. We were told that wasn't possible since all the portions were premeasured in the kitchen and she'd have to charge us $12.99 instead of $9.99 to sample one piece. Pass on that!
Good news was that food arrived. The breading on the fried cod was very thick and crunchy. Inside the fish was shiny and not cooked thru properly. The potatoes were a handful of shreds called hashbrowns which were pretty greasy. The cole slaw was tasteless. Best part was the hot dinner roll. Too bad the butter was melted and had to be poured on the bread! The baked cod was stone cold, but didn't melt the butter! We should have called for the manager and thought about sending it all back but decided to cut our losses and get out of there.
The place was crowded and people seemed to be enjoying their food. Did we just get seriously unlucky?
Good news - They take reservations, even for 2 people! Bad news - Won't give them another chance. VERY DISAPPOINTING..
