| - It's about darn time! When I first moved to Charlotte from Chapel Hill I was a bit shocked that the QC did not have a Whole Foods, being the largest city in the state and all. So I went after work to check it out and get the lay of the land. I asked my roommate if we could park in front of Café Monte and walk because every Whole Foods has awful parking lots, and this one is no exception. Lucky for me I pulled in as someone was pulling out.
The first thing I noticed once entering was how large this particular store is. It dwarfs every other Whole Foods I have been in. Heck there was even an escalator by the front door that goes somewhere. Not sure if it's a parking deck or more store. All the produce looked incredible and they have nice salad green mixes that are no more expensive than those from Harris Teeter. As I made my way down the refrigerated section I noticed how clean it was. So shiny, I felt like I was in "2012: A Whole Foods Odyssey". I am sure the cleanliness has something to do with them being open less than a week, but it would be nice if they could upkeep that. There is of course the awesome salad bar, hot bar, deli section, sushi, baked goods, sandwiches and coffee. Plenty of seating as well, I think there is extra seating upstairs too.
My favorite moment of the trip was sampling "Atlanta Fresh" Greek yogurt. Holy cow, I was literally blown away and still thinking about it the next day. Such unique flavors: Peach ginger, mango pineapple habanero, Mexican chocolate with chilies. They were so off the wall, yet they worked. The guy running the stand made a good point though "Everyone can make a blueberry yogurt". Now the price is a bit steep at 2.50 a serving, but they are good enough to make them a weekly treat. So I got the peach ginger yogurt, it was my favorite of the bunch. I also got my childhood favorite cookie the "jumble". Which they make after making all other cookies, they take the left over ingredients and throw it into one batch. So you get a little bit of everything. Lastly I purchased the 21st Amendment breweries "Hell or High Watermelon" wheat beer. It was a light, refreshing wheat beer with a slightly artifical watermelon flavor.
I'm not sure if I will do all my grocery shopping at Whole Foods but I do love going there. It's a bit of nostalgia since that's where my family shopped growing up. There is a good selection of everything. It can be a bit pricey, but if you shop at places like Harris Teeter I do not see much of a difference there. Plus the "365" store brand is generally organic and priced more competitively. I am just glad we finally have one in Charlotte.
