I see a lot of complaints about how difficult it is to get in touch with the office. I can't really comment on that as I've only had to call once to make my first appointment; although I didn't have any problem getting in touch then. When I go to the office the staff has been nice and helpful. I tend to ask a lot of questions and haven't had a problem getting answers. I schedule my followup appointments while I'm at the office. My prescriptions have always been called into my pharmacy correctly and timely without issue.
I see Dr. McDermott. She is great. She has been a huge help. She is patient and caring. She has been genuinely concerned about me and takes the time to answer questions and helps you understand what is going on and what the future may hold. I first met her at the Summerlin Hospital and she is now my GI. I dropped the one I had been seeing because I liked her and the people she works with at the hospital so much.
I would definitely recommend Dr. McDermott!!!
I'll be sure to update my review if I encounter any of the problems others have reported.
Update: My last visit with Dr. McDermott was great. I'm so glad to have her as my GI., but, you know what they say; good help is hard to find. The woman I checked out with was supposed to fax my script in to my insurance company so I could get mail order set up. She did not seem to want to do this but after some persuasion and persistence she said she would fax it in.
About a week later I called my insurance company to check on the status of the prescription; they never received it. I called Dr. McDermott's office several times and left voice messages with the person I was transferred to who is responsible for getting scripts filed.
After a week of patiently waiting with no call backs and my insurance company not getting anything I started asking to speak with a manager/supervisor. All the people I talked to on the phone were very nice and said their supervisor wasn't there or was in a meeting and they would pass my message along and I would get a call back within a day. I never did get to talk to a supervisor but, after about 2 weeks of calling every 2 or so days I finally got a call back from the woman who takes care of filling scripts. She was very nice and told me she faxed my script in, no explanation for why it took so long and why it took weeks to get a call back and I didn't have time to get into when she called; I was just relieved to have it finally taken care of.
Unfortunately for me I actually ran out of medicine while all this was going on. Fortunately for me, my local pharmacy still had 1 refill on file that I was able to get filed at the eleventh hour. Unfortunately for me it is much more expensive (about $250) to get it filled at the local pharmacy verses through my insurances mail order pharmacy (because they give me 3 months worth of medicine but only charge for 2.
Leason learned. I will not be leaving the office without a fax confirmation or whatever else I need in the future. I will happily sit and wait if they need some time to get it done.
Though I experienced all these problems with getting the script filled I would still recommend Dr. McDermott. She is so great that I would easily put up with what I went through with her staff again. But now that I know how hard it is to get stuff done after the fact I will make sure it gets done before I leave in the future.
So, go see Dr. McDermott but make sure you got everything you need from her staff before you leave. Seriously, Dr. McDermott is that great. For this reason I'm leaving the rating at 5 stars.
