  • I've had a yearly pass to this zoo for the past 5 years now. I could probably write a couple page review but I'll keep it simple. I'm very pleased with the updates the zoo has done in the past couple years (elephant exhibit, tiger exhibit, carousel, wedding hall, the glass by the seals) but there are a couple more updates really needing done! The sun bears exhibit is still stuck in the 70s and needs a major overall. The bears exhibit is WAY too small and concrete. Nothing resembles their natural habitat. It would be great if this was next on the list of updates. Also the primates/cats near the aquarium needs a face lift. Most of these are too small for the animals and very outdated! I suggested going to the rain forest first since everyone goes in there last. It will save you the hassle of dealing with the crowds. This zoo is open year round and a trip to the rain forest in the winter is very nice since it is heated to a tropical climate and the winter prices are a little cheaper than summer prices. Coolers are allowed here and there are pavilions you can store them in but there's also several food places here too if you don't wish to pack a lunch. There's a Burger King just outside the zoo on the eastern side of the hill on 25th street. This is a good option since the prices aren't inflated like the McDonald's and Pizza Hut inside the zoo. ( Note that none of the restaurants give out straws or lids for drinks so plan accordingly if you have younger children.)
