| - I finished the "free" 6-Week challenge but missed the goal by 0.6%! In retrospect, I probably could've met the goal if I had been home and in good health the whole six weeks. The challenge itself requires 100% commitment, but I took a trip and caught a virus so was sick for a few days. Plan it right, commit yourself, and the goal is attainable. But don't think that means it's easy. It definitely is not.
The challenge goal depends on your fitness level. If you have a high body fat percentage, then your goal will be to lose 20 pounds in 6 weeks. My goal was to lose 6% body fat - I used to be athletic, I just let myself go, so I was in the middle. And if you're very thin, then the goal may be to actually gain weight/muscle mass.
REQUIREMENTS: The reason I'm not bashing this challenge (despite my failure) is because it is set up to hold you accountable. You have to place a monetary deposit that you only get back if you meet your goal. (If you miss your goal, they will apply the deposit to future gym membership.) You must check in for a minimum of 18 workouts (at the gym and on social media), post "sweaty selfies" on the group's Facebook page, take pictures of your weekly groceries, and weigh in every week. There's a little more to it than that but I consider those the big ones.
GYM MGMT: I'll be honest - gym management is a little scattered. When I first joined, there was a nutritionist. He was gone a week into my challenge. Not sure of the details surrounding that. My favorite trainer was let go during week 5 of my challenge because he wasn't available as much as they wanted him to work. Seems like a poor decision given how popular he was. Erica, the coordinator of the challenge, is stretched a little thin and sometimes takes awhile to respond. But she's knowledgeable and wants to help you succeed.
CLASSES: There are several trainers and lots of different classes, so there's something for everyone. There are specific classes for challenge participants but you are welcome to take any other classes you want. I was never bored.
SUPPORT: perhaps my biggest pet peeve was this automated texting program they use to "encourage" you. It was obviously not personal because after I responded to the first message with information about my progress, it replied a few hours later asking me almost everything I'd already provided. That annoyance aside, real life people are great and they are there to help. Just ask your questions to a live person. They give you a diet plan geared toward your goal. I think it's a little impersonal and doesn't take your individuality into consideration. I wondered whether it was necessary for me to eat all that food, and should've asked more questions about how to tailor it more towards me specifically, but I didn't. That's my failure. If you have questions, ask. Be critical and ask for direction.
End result, I feel good. I have definition again. The challenge re-instilled some good habits and has me excited to continue on my fitness journey. A little disappointed I didn't get my deposit back, but as I said before, they apply it to gym membership so I'm encouraged to maintain the momentum the challenge created. Glad I did it.
