| - I write this review as a corpse in an unmarked tomb in the Valley of Kings. Our bumbling foursome did our best to solve the puzzles, but despite multiple hints over the Escape Room loudspeaker (our escape room host really did all he could), we couldn't be saved by our own poor observational skills.
This was my second visit to an escape room, and I can point to two specific things I really liked about Escape Room Pittsburgh. First, they really went all-out on the decorations and multimedia. Nothing flimsy or half-assed, they clearly want to create a good experience. Second, I love the old Homestead bank building (one of two locations for them). Escape rooms really aren't about the challenge of solving puzzles. They're more for the social experience, the schmaltz, and the laughs, and we got plenty of all of it.
The puzzles in our escape room were a bit of a mixed bag. On a couple of occasions, we had a rough time even figuring out what the puzzle even was (amid all the decorations). But when push comes to shove, what really matters is that everyone is having a good time, and on that score, we brought my dad here on the occasion of his 80th birthday, and he seemed to really enjoy it. Best of all, he did great in there. If I ever see my 80th, I'll be happy if I can be trusted to make my own trips to the loo.
