  • I have been using RTA for years and have never experienced a problem quite like this. I was leaving work and catch the 83 bus traveling north at 3:37 PM. I do this Monday through Friday. I use to talk to the driver who is very courteous and polite. On Friday June 28th 2013 I had a doctors appointment with my pulmonary specialist in downtown Lakewood at 4:30 PM that I needed to get to. I have very bad asthma and sleep apnia. I called RTA at 3;50 PM because the bus never arrived. A gentleman I spoke with told me that there was an incident and the bus was not coming. He also told me that they were not sending out a replacement bus even though they know the 83 runs once per hour. I had to reschedule my appointment. I cought the 83 traveling north to get out of the rain. When I got to Tri C West where the 83 bus route starts I saw the broken down bus and my driver speaking to the RTA mechanic. A woman got on the bus and told me that the driver tried to get back on his coach and accidently set off the fire extinguisher which made the bus undrivable. Fine, a 12 year veteran driver activates the fire extinguisher trying to open his door to re-enter his bus. When you think you have heard everything, its just amazing. In the mean time numerous passengers lives get screwed up. I wrote to RTA telling them that I expect full reimbursement if I am charged for the doctors visit. When I saw my driver the the following Monday he never apologized or brought up anything about his negligent mishap. So what this all comes down to is. Rta has completely swept this incident under the rug and are pretending this never happened for liability reasons. I can understand all this but that does not make things right. They did not even have the decency to send another bus so people could get where they were going on time. This just goes to show me how uncompassionate they are. If the passengers have to wait and be late, then so be it. Its a funny thing though. This is a driver who at least has social skills and acts decent with the riders, but he can't even fess up to what he did to at least say," I am sorry for not showing up Friday". I am usually a good judge of charactor and it is very disappointing, to say the least. It would of been better if he has just plain all out nasty like some of the other drivers who act like they are doing you a favor by letting you on their bus. It would of been alot easier to digest.
