| - So I really wanted to take the time to write a thorough review for this gym so that the people considering signing up really understood the reality of what they are signing up for.
I have signed up at a lot of different gyms around the world because I travel for work and I must say that Equinox was one of the WORST gyms that I have come across. If you are looking for a luxury gym, this is NOT the gym you should be looking into. Trust me, don't waste your time or money here.
Pro's:
1) Cleanliness
(this is the only reason why I gave them the 1-star. Other than this one thing they literally deserve zero stars)
Con's
1) Quality of Service - Zero
(I write zero because they literally have no quality of service. I cancelled my membership 4 months ago, at my 1 year contract end, and to this day I have not gotten a acknowledgement of the cancellation. To the point where I had to just get a new Visa card with a new number so that they would just not be able to charge me anymore.
When I signed up they had some promotion where if I did my fitness assessment within the first month of signing up I would get my initiation fee back within that first month. It took nearly 6 months, countless phone calls to management (countless unanswered phone calls might I add) and the threat of a lawsuit for this to happen. The thing with this gym is that when they don't feel like hearing from you or dealing with you, they just ignore you.
Mike, the GM, could not have been a worse Manager. The only thing he was really good at was standing by the front door and making small-talk with you. Whenever you actually needed something he was 'out of the office' even though you had eyes and could very well see him, sitting in his office.
Mike actually reached out to me and offered me guest passes to bring some of my friends at one point. The day that I brought in my friend was quite possibly the funniest experience of my life. After setting everything up for her, neither Mike nor Trevor remembered to leave her name and the fact that they had done this for the front desk staff. And the front desk staff consisted of a girl who woke up with no desire to be at work that day. After arguing with me that I was making up the fact that I had been given this guest pass for my friend and giving me lots of attitude and staring at us as if we worked for her, another front desk staffer had to come and help us out. After I told Mike about this incident, his basic response was: she has been with us forever and she must have had an off day. .... Yes CUSTOMER SERVICE STAFF was having and off day where she wasn't wanting to give CUSTOMERS ... SERVICE....)
2) Quality of Machines - Two
(In the one year that I went to this gym I might have been able to use the stair-master maybe a dozen times because almost every time I went they being fixed or completely broken and unable to be used. For a consistent period of 3 weeks they were all roped off and unable to be used at all. Whenever we asked about their timeline on when they would be fixed, they just said that they were working on it... for a month)
My experience at this gym eventually got so bad that I actually went and signed up at a different gym so I would be able to workout until my 1-year contract was up at Equinox and I would be able to escape from it. They literally drove me to pay for 2 simultaneous gym memberships. When I called their head office to complain it basically consisted of the same quality of service so I realized that their management system is broken from the top down. They are just one of those gym enterprises that don't care about their quality, they just want to appear grand and attract quantity.
There are plenty of fantastic luxury gyms in this city guys, and they give you fantastic customer service and they actually appreciate their members. Make sure that you do your research before settling for this one. I just don't want you to be wasting your time and money here, because it really is a waste.
