Bought my ticket online but needed a baggage tag as I was checking a bag. No problem, it's a big station with several ticket counters. Unfortunately there was nobody staffing most of them, including the counter with the handwritten sign saying "information and baggage tags". There were 2 employees behind the counter but 1 guy just ignored everyone. After 25 minutes I was still in line (a lot of people were buying last minute tickets) and they announced my bus. I panicked and ran I up to the unhelpful guy and asked if I could just get a baggage tag as my bus was boarding. He replied "Yes" and carried on staring at the counter. I replied "um...from you?" and he said no, the other guy would do it when it was my turn. I mentioned again that my bus was boarding and he just shrugged. When I finally got my baggage tag it wasn't even printed (like they are in Edmonton), it was just a little blank tag to attach to my luggage handle, there wasn't even a pen to fill out the tag. I waited in line half an hour for that and nearly missed my bus! A guy ahead of me in line had several smaller bags...he bought his ticket but when he went to board he was pulled aside and told he needed baggage tags for his items. He was made to go back and wait in line again because the agents didn't do their job in the first place!
The staff at the Calgary Greyhound depot ranged from apathetic to downright nasty and petty. They seemed to really look down on their clients and hate their jobs. The only guy who seemed OK was the "wrangler" who was responsible for organizing everyone into lines, he tried to engage the crowd with jokes and questions but everyone was pretty stressed from their experience up to that point! However, even that guy got a bit nasty, he was high fiving passengers and one didn't want to participate as he pointed out that germs were spread by hand to hand contact. He's absolutely right but the Greyhound guy ridiculed him loudly.
The whole experience was such a contrast from my experience with Edmonton North Greyhound last week...there the station was small and a little grungy but the staff were all really friendly, outgoing and helpful. Calgary Greyhound could learn a few lessons in courtesy from their northern neighbours
