  • Menchie's and the song "Lolipop, Lolipop, badum-dum-dum 'pop!'" would go hand in hand. This place is so bubbly and pink and tween-ish!! It's funny because (random point), when I was walking around this plaza in Palm Beach, Florida, I saw a store where people would go in and make their own frozen yoghurt choices with toppings and pay at the cashier. This was almost two years ago and at that time I thought it was ingenious and thinking they should have something like that in TO... Now fast forward to last Saturday and my friends wanted to go to Menchie's (and as I was still in my City Chase gear, I thought that would be more apropo than going to Moroco Chocolat...) The place was packed! I am not sure when this place opened, but the concept is simple: choose cup, choose flavour (single or combinations), choose toppings, pay by weight. FYI! Menchie's has little cups for you to try all the flavours before committing and paying for tub size. What is also very helpful are the signs beside the flavour choices that indicate low fat, non-fat...I don't know how true they are because there is NO WAY the Red Velvet yoghurt I had was non-fat...it was sooooooooooooo good. One of my friends had the Green Tart Apple, which was very tasty too. By the way, for frequent Menchiers, there is a points card. I am sad to report that I do not know the point to dollar ratio because I was so focused on getting to my dessert and all I heard from the cashier girl was 'yak, yak, yak' (a-la little yellow bird from Snoopy), but if you go there often enough, the card would be handy to have. As for price, I think it is very reasonable. I had a big tub of the Red Velvet without toppings and it came out to be less than $5. And the fact that it's DIY, and you can try out different flavours before hand makes the whole pre-eating experience already enjoyable. There needs to be an uptown (North York) location fast!
