| - Went on a Sunday afternoon for Dim Sum @ Dim Sum. Weekends are always fun, because they have the carts circling the restaurant and you get to pick and choose what you want. This was my second time here and the first time I would have rated it a 3/5 as the food was all 'Okay' and on the greasy side. Hit the spot, but wasn't anything special. This past Sunday was my first time after they re-opened and I was much impressed.
FOOD - 4/5 - Good selection of dim sum and everything we had was somewhere between good and great. This isn't "Best thing I've ever had" type food, it's more for comfort food (al beit not traditional), variety, and nostalgia. We had the sticky rice wrapped in banana leaf (I think), shu mai, chicken feet, pork buns, roast duck, those shrimp rolls (the white ones that come with sauce), and pineapple buns. The sticky rice, shrimp rolls, and duck were stand outs. Duck is on the fatty side, which I prefer, but certainly a preference. Pork buns were quite disappointing. As a staple and the most approachable for non-dim sum eats, it was dry with very little filling.
Ambiance 4/5 (not that it's fancy, but it lives up to expectations) - The ambiance is exactly what I'd expect from a dim sum restaurant. If I walk in to a dim sum place and I see Edison Bulbs and fancy tile work, I'm walking out. This had everything I expect from dim sum: drop ceilings, cheap metal framed chairs with vinyl cushions, and the push carts.
Price - 3/5 - Not expensive by any stretch, but most Charlotte restaurants can't push the volume to have low prices. We paid about $41 for two people and we were full.
Service - 4/5 - Carts were prompt, no problem paying or getting a take out box. As long as I get my food, service isn't that important to me at Dim Sum.
