| - We were referred here by 2 friends who dine here frequently, friends that we share similar taste buds with! So of course we had to try. When we drove up it seemed to be another great hole in the wall restaurant. Nothing too fancy on the outside...but when we walked in it was like walking into Old Vegas...live band playing great tunes, Old Vegas pictures on the wall, dim lighting, wait staff dressed very nice. We were sat in a corner booth by the entrance. It was a great spot, overlooked everything. If you want a quiet, romantic spot...not the place to come during the busy hours! But we were not there for that. We were there for some great Italian food. Our waiter came over introduced himself, asked if we had been before and then proceeded to tell us about the menu and the specials. We ordered our drinks and were served yummy hot bread and butter.
I ordered the special, gnocchi with filet tips in a gargonzola cream sauce and my man ordered the Fettucine Alla Pappasito
Fresh homemade egg noodles tossed with a combination of crumbled and sliced smoked sausage, mixed with sauteed sweet onions in a white wine four cheese sauce.
Our food came out fresh and hot and DELICIOUS! The sauces on both dishes were AMAZING...
Our 1st experience here was fantastic. Food 110% spot on, service as well and for the price was worth it 5 star experience .
Now for last night...we had such a great experience the 1st time we wanted to go back...I don't normally write a review unless I have been at least 2 times or if it was just terrible the 1st. I have to say I am very sad to report that this time we had about a 2 star experience which is why I am giving it a 3 star total.
I called ahead to see how busy they were, it was late and I didn't know what time they stopped serving. The lady on the phone who is so very pleasant said they didn't stop til 3:30am ...it was about 10:30pm so we were good. We got there and the band was done, so it was very quiet, perfect time to come if you want that quiet atmosphere. We were seated at a booth. It was not busy inside. There were about 5 tables with people all together. We sat and looked thru the menu. Sat some more, sat even more...about 10 mins, no waiter, no water, no service. Then a waiter walked over, helped the couple sitting at the table next to us, turned around when he was done and apologized for the delay. Not sure why there was a delay since the place was dead. We ordered waters, he said that he would get that and have bread sent over to the table. He brought back our waters, told us about the specials, which sounded amazing, so we ordered one of each. Mine was penne pasta with a cream sauce, cheese and lobster, he suggested a side of marinara to counteract some of the cheese...and my man ordered the fettuccine with this steak a that had spinach and cheese rolled up inside with seasoning and marinated over night and slow roasted to perfection, the sauce was a butter garlic.
The bread finally came out, but went to wrong table, so the waiter reached over, took it off their table and gave it to us. Was it warm? Yes...but didn't taste or feel fresh, not like our 1st visit. Waters were refilled regularly which is big for me...I don't like an empty glass. Our food came out and it looked delicious. Unfortunately, it was not a big hit. Man's dish had very little meat, surrounding a pile of spinach inside, no cheese, he said no flavor and like it had been broiled really quick...tough. not like the waiter described at all. Mine was good. Not great. I mixed it all up looking for the lobster...we paid $32 for each plate. I had maybe 3 pieces of lobster that were SO small I had to rub off the sauce with my fork to see if it really was lobster....disappointed to say the least. For $32 there should have been some hefty chunks of lobster in there and my man's food should have been as described by the waiter. The marinara sauce was delicious. We did order cesar salad prior and those were fantastic as well. Our service, once we finally had some, was good.
But I am truly disappointed with my $72 bill for what we had. I really wanted to be able to give this place 5 Stars since our 1st experience was so wonderful but am sadly giving it a 3. Had we not been prior I would have only given it a 2. :(
