Quick Japanese lesson for everyone:
IMADAKE means "only now"
I guess that this is a fitting name due to 2 reasons:
1. the YOLO attitude when it comes to drinking here. Everyone (mostly everyone) was having a good time getting blasted here.
2. Possibly because of the limited time food special that they have.
Whatever your theory about the name, this place is a real find! I was surprised to find real Japanese food in Montreal.
During my tine in Montreal, it was apparent that they love sushi. Of course 90% of it is Americanized/Canadianized which is not appealing to me.
Jonzing for rice and a taste of the motherland I ventured to this place.
To my surprise the food here is pretty authentic. I won't say that it's straight out the motherland but pretty close for being 7000 miles away! Just in case you don't know I am super picky when it comes to Japanese food. I am all about authenticity when it comes to my home food so any seal of approval on authenticity is a HUGE seal of approval.. If you don't like it, go back to your favorite teriyaki hole.
I was by myself so I just picked off of the izakaya menu.
Tori no kawa (chicken skin) was nice and crispy w/ lots of flavor. It was served in appetizer format vs the traditional kushi style (on a stick)
Char-Siu ramen was actually very tasty and chocked full of char siu. Borderline motherland legit (Yes, this is a awesome compliment).
Outside of the food, this seems like a hip place to take a few friends to kill a few brain cells with sake bombs. During my visit all I could hear was tables slamming and people chanting Sake Bomb, Sake Bomb....
Anyhow this place is about as close to Japan I got during my stay in Montreal. Come here for a good time and real Japanese food.
