| - If old Vegas, mobster and neon mechanical engineering is what your in the mood for, then the Neon Museum is the soup du jour.
Located a mile or so from the Fremont Area, the Neon Boneyard is a fun and funky quick outing. I wasn't really pining for a lesson in Vegas lighting history, but having a staycation kind of spring break week, needing things to do, my daughter and I decided to take a little tour.
I bought tickets online the day before, surprisingly there was very little space left when I attempted to select a time slot.
Arriving about 30 minutes before our time, we browsed the gift shop full of Vegas history books and memorabilia and retro inspired tchotchkes and postcards, our tour guide promptly called us over at exactly our time.
You need to stick together and the tour guide repeated the rules about 20 times, no meandering outside the group and no touching. Not hard to understand why, she mentioned how past visitors have touched or climbed on these antique signs and plaques only to have them broken or destroyed. I didn't realize a small 5 foot tall letter or sign can cause upwards of tens of thousands of dollars.
The tour takes a little less than an hour, was interesting indeed, albeit the sun shining down quite strongly upon our shoulders, bring water and a hat and enjoy the quick little trip down Vegas memory lane.
