| - Our table of 9 was..... disappointed.
So we checked in at 7:17p and we didn't have a table until about 8-8:10p. See, that's not usually a problem since we understand that we're a large party arriving at dinner time so yes, we expected to wait quite a while. But after 40 minutes, we decided to sit inside the restaurant. we noticed that the hostesses has absolutely no idea of seating or planning. An entire table that could comfortably sit 10-12 people were occupied by a couple. One couple. They actually sat one couple down at a table that could easily fit ours.
Moving on. We ordered (ordering is already a pain since it seems like there's certain people only available to take orders and they seem to disappear as soon as you hold a menu in your hand). throughout our night, the food kept coming out like, in spurts. Like 4 dishes would come out. Then 15 minutes of nothing would come. I ordered nigiri and after 20 minutes, i accepted that it wasn't put in. So I ordered the same thing again and explained the situation to the waitress. After another 20 minutes, it still didn't come. Towards the very end of our meal, all of the nigiri came. Like really?
Annoyed, My sister's fiancé actually asked a waitress if they have some sort of system or list that they cross off as the food is delivered to our table. She actually said no. Which explains the unpredictable timing of food, delay of food, and just ... it was chaos.
The food itself was, alright. My sister literally broke out in hives after eating at Umiya. The drive to find an open pharmacy was intense (they all seem to close at 11p by our house). For all parents with a child breaking out in hives: GET BENADRYL. it works faster! Today my sister's doctor said that the food might not have been fresh or the oil clean.
Our waitress saw 2 little rice pieces of rice (from the nigiri) and she immediately prompted us with a speech about how left over rice will be an extra charge. Wouldn't be a better idea to prompt us towards the END of our meal? Because my dad planned on eating the sushi rice with his soft shell crab...
I understand that we are a big party. And we always loved coming to Umiya. But the quality and service has been going downhill steadily. It hasn't actually affected us until now.
