  • Velveteen Rabbit has been on my list for awhile and I happened to be in the neighborhood to see Hamilton at The Smith Center. This place has all the makings of a great hipster hang out. Dark - check. Sparsely decorated - check. Funky couches - check. Complicated, delicious craft cocktails - check. Where this place goes off script is the bartender forgot to make us squares feel out of place. She was super friendly and welcoming and we instantly stopped murmuring about not feeling cool enough to have a drink here. I am not hip enough to get on board with wearing flats on a night out, but too old to stand around in heels. I am happy to report that the funky couches were comfy. The drink prices were reasonable and very tasty, and bathrooms were clean. Only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because there's no kitchen and home girl has to eat. Great addition to the Arts District.
