| - So buying your glasses from someone other than your optometrist seems to be the in thing these days and I mean, if you're paying a fraction of the price, without even eating into your annual maximum, I'm in. There were several online stores I was considering but whenever I asked my fellow bespectacled friends for eyewear recommendations, I got "Warby Parker" every single time.
To be honest, I thought I'd be the only one in-store trying on frames but boy was I wrong - it was a Saturday afternoon, and it was exactly like any other store on a Saturday afternoon, busy. Walking in, the layout vaguely gave me the impression of a library, with floor to ceiling shelves of neatly arranged frames in various colors. Systematically, I worked my way around the store and really appreciated that each shelf was clearly labeled with the name of the frame you had in hand, as well as a clearly printed price. This price includes the standard polycarbonate lens but if you're blind as a bat like me, you'd probably want a high index lens which comes at an additional $30 or $130, depending on the high-index-ity (yes, I made that up) of the lens.
The pricing of the frames is simple, $95 for acetate frames, and $145 for anything else. Unfortunately, I wanted frames with actual nose pads and those don't come with acetate frames so here I am out another $50 on top of the $30 for high index lenses.
The salespeople are incredibly friendly and they were able to measure my pupillary distance with this funky binoculars-looking machine. Orders can definitely be placed in store using fancy iPads though I'd appreciate it if I were able to verify my order before it was placed since the email receipt isn't very detailed (no mention of my prescription or breakdown of costs) - I'd definitely try asking the salesperson if I could check my order before it was placed next time, but they do have a generous 30 day, no questions asked, return policy so I took some comfort in that, in case there were any typos with my prescription.
I know I'm jumping the gun a little here, writing this review before receiving my glasses, but for the physical store, it was a good experience and if the glasses work out, I'll definitely swing by next time I need another pair of glasses!
