| - Not a bad hotel. Not amazing either.
The staff here are super friendly and accommodating, although I did get some weird looks when I asked them if there was a bar nearby that did scorpion shots, lol.
Room-wise, I think there could definitely be some improvements. The bathroom sink was somewhat small, and being a female who is always concerned about her hair/make-up/shower stuff, I had little space to distribute my cosmetics and such. There was a noticeable lack of outlets on the walls, especially near the bed. I seriously couldn't believe there wasn't an outlet by the nightstand so I could plug my phone in. I like to listen to my music at night and use my alarm in the morning, so that kind of bummed me out. I don't trust the alarm clocks in hotels as sometimes they do not work. There were a couple of extension cords in the room though, mostly for your computer by the desk and for the coffee pot near the TV, so I made due. When I first came in my room, I found a needle on the floor (!) and also a stain on the couch. Good thing I put my suitcase on the couch...might have sat on the stain otherwise, lol. The dresser looked kind of abused as did the desk, like it was kinda outdated and worn. Minor gripes.
Also I found it REALLY weird that the A/C unit had a big signed taped to it saying it's controlled by the thermostat on the opposite wall when it clearly is not. You lift up the panel and it has switches there. It was freezing in my room so I had to mess with that.
Restaurant-wise, the Fire and Spice place is one of the only selections. I think it might be different from the buffet area in the back, but it showed up as the same name on my credit card.... speaking of Fire+Spice, the menu sounded pretty cool and experimental but goddammit, everything was spicy. Even the freaking BREAD had spicy peppers in it! Ew, ew, ew! Spicy food totally rapes my colon, so I basically couldn't eat anything there. One night I ended up getting the scallops and had to beg them to make it as "non-spicy as possible." It sorta worked, but I had some stomach pains the next morning. :( This also bugged me when we were having lunch at the conference I attended there one afternoon and everything on the buffet was spicy! I pretty much had to skip lunch that day.
Overall, it's not a bad place to stay but I am sure there are better places too. I liked that they had coffee AND tea during the breaks between presentations so everyone could re-charge. Internet was spotty some days. The pool area was nice, and I liked the fireplace thingy at night.
