  • I absolutely hate writing such a bad review for this property especially after my wonderful visit last year. Our visit seemed to start out well after getting an upgraded room with a jacuzzi tub. Unfortunately it was in the Palm tower which seems to be constantly under construction and had a weird smell in it. We also noticed that the room may have been remodeled but with very poor attention to detail. The crown molding had seams in the middle of the wall and colored paint was on the baseboards. Just the kind of thing you would not expect to see in a high end hotel. We had dinner at the casino cafe which was actually quite good. We played in the casino for quite a while and enjoyed our evening. The next morning we decided to try the new restaurant The Hawthorne Grill for breakfast. The buffet looked unappealing so we ordered off the menu. I ordered the eggs Benedict and after over an hour of waiting our food arrived. Now it wasn't busy but we were not in a hurry so even though it took a long time for our food to come out we were still enjoying our morning. The restaurant is beautiful. When our food finally arrived my eggs that should have been poached were completely over cooked and the hollandaise sauce was cold. I sent my food back but did not want it replaced. When our waiter finally brought the check he walked past us until I called home back to take it so we could get out of there. We moved onto the pool where we had a great afternoon. The service we received there was fantastic and we had a great time. On our way to the spa we talked to the concierge who told us she was surprised by our breakfast issue and that The Hawthorne grill served an amazing dinner. We decided to make dinner reservations and give it another shot. On to the spa we went where I was definitely disappointed with the facilities compared to my last visit. Half of the pool massagers were not working and it seemed kind of dirty compared to my last visit. We went to dinner and really enjoyed it. I felt like we were in a totally different restaurant than where we had breakfast. In fact I believe my husbands ribeye was the best I have ever tasted. I had the sweet potato gnocchi with lobster that was pretty good as well. Our server was also very good. The issue came about when we paid. I used a debit card that was charged and brought back for me to sign and add a tip which I did. As we were leaving the manager stopped us and told us that they were unable to "close" the purchase. I logged into my account and could see the pending transaction which included the tip. I had more than enough in my account to cover dinner and the tip which as I said was already showing as being deducted. I was very frustrated to say the least. The manager insisted on sending champagne and strawberries to our room but honestly by this point I just wanted to head home. What should have been a fantastic weekend celebrating my husbands birthday turned into a I never want to stay here again type of weekend. I love the Marriott brand and will continue to stay at Marriott hotels with the exception of this one. At least if I stay on the strip I am not expecting to have a stress free stay like I was thinking I would have with this visit.
