| - At first I almost vomited at the sight of their price tags. I was actually quite offended and appalled but decided to browse around anyway. $7 for a basket of peaches is also quite a rip but they were Ontario peaches and came with the purple muffin holder things... $5 for a bag of Kettle chips?? Half a chopped pineapple for $5 and a full one for $8? How do they find the nerve when most grocery stores charge $4-5 for a full one? I almost wanted to drop my basket just out of sheer principle but I gave it a shot and kept perusing the store.
Although the prices are outrageously expensive, they appear to have some specialty items. If, for example, you are reminiscent of the marshmallows from Butter in Vancouver, then by all means, pay $7 a bag for 5 marshmallows. I was actually hoping to find Butter's cookie sandwiches there but I've concluded that no one in Toronto carries them, probably because they have to be fresh...
Their prepared food, on the other hand, is quite good. They bake cookies. I bought some peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. They were nice and chewy and appeared to have natural ingredients but they tasted kinda old. Not sure if the peanut butter or peanuts were past their prime but it didn't taste right.
It looks like they sell ground beef a bit longer than they should. When it's brown, you probably should've taken it off the shelves a couple of days ago, but I'm not a butcher so I don't know.
Their prepared food that's going to expire in 1 day is discounted half price. Definitely some good finds. I bought some quiches. Only ate one so far and it was delicious. Who knew broccoli could taste so good? Also the boneless half-chicken (breasts) stuffed with sage and apple stuffing with an herb marinade is delicious too.
Only 3 stars because of price gouging and the cookies that led me to believe they use old peanuts or peanut butter.
Overall, this place is great for the prepared food sales and I can see myself stopping by again as they're a great option for dinner if you don't have time to make something. A good spot to supplement your regular grocery store shopping with specialty items, but should by no means replace a visit to a regular grocery store or farmers' market.
