| - My whole family goes to Monroe Street Family Dental and they have seen us through years where we needed various procedures and years where we didn't. I trust Dr. Farrow and find that he listens carefully to what I want and need for myself and for my children. I have opted for various procedures at his recommendation and wished I had only been able (financially) to do it earlier. And I have opted out of others and found that he adapted his plan to suite my decisions and never pushed me into revising my choices. He consistently works with us collaboratively. He is honest and cares for his patients. And as a mom with two very young children (and in need of several procedures on my own: braces, etc), I rely on that integrity. I changed insurance rather than have to change dentists: It's that important to me.
For example, after two kids and nursing my teeth were showing moderate wear from a mild cross-bite I've always had. My last dentist never addressed the issue even when I would ask about it - I had back teeth cracking and chipping and front teeth wearing down unevenly. When Dr. Farrow and I talked about the issue, he drew up a three year plan for me that included two minor oral surgeries, braces, and then restoration work. The costs and procedures scared me and I took a good year to think it through and decide - no pressure at all throughout this time to consider it. Eventually I decided I was ready for it but that I didn't want one of the surgeries (its routine but scared me, so I didn't want it). He modified his entire plan to do the very best he could under my constraints.
I'm now past the surgery, almost done with braces, and about to go into the restoration phase. And I'm relieved and glad I did it. I knew for the last few years that something as wrong and getting worse, but it happened so slowly over many years that it was hard to see the results. I was used to it: breaking teeth, uneven wear, mild discomfort. Now, only half-way through the process, I feel so relieved. I'm more comfortable, my teeth are no longer deteriorating, my oral health is high, and I feel great. I wish I had done it sooner, but at least I did it! And I did it all *on my own terms.* For me, that last part is what make it possible for me to commit to something that would take so long (and cost).
Moreover, throughout this process, Dr. Farrow has been in constant (I mean *constant*) communication with my oral surgeon (Dr. Davis, who has the surgical hands of a ninja) and orthodontist (Dr. Bird, who is nothing short of a genius architect in teensy tooth movements) to insure that all three are in sync all the way down to the wee little millimeters of tooth movement here and there. When does Dr. Farrow sleep? No idea, because he talks to my other two doctors after nearly every visit. Can you believe that? Its awesome. They attend workshops on cutting edge procedures together. What? Yes. He lives, eats, and breaths dental health.
Another example of Dr. Farrow's consistent priorities of our health and well-being over his profit: When one of my sons (4 YO at the time) had a cavity, he recommended that I transition both of my sons to Children's Dental rather than his own office because they had equipment best suited to their small bodies. He didn't have to advise that as my husband and I both love our dentist and really don't care to go to anyone else. He did it because he cares more about our health than his pocket book. He wanted my sons, given their ages, to go to a clinic with state of the art capacity to treat them at their small size (and he was right, the shift was a good one to make for now). He didn't want them to have bad dentist experiences. He's our family dentist, after all, and knows that longterm its better for all of us for my littlest ones to get what they need now because he'll be the one taking care of them longer term. Again: integrity.
As to costs, you get what you pay for. Like any other family, we don't have unlimited resources. Health is high priority, though. For me, I don't mind paying a bit more cost (actually, its not nearly as "more" as another review implies, but that's another issue) when I know that I am working with a doctor with integrity, who I can trust to put my family's well-being first and who listens to me.
Let's face it, dental work is scary and expensive. And its stuff that's easy to just sort of ignore until you literally cannot ignore it anymore. I wouldn't want to do this without knowing I'm in the best hands in town and that I have a real say in how we do this. Going to Dr. Farrow, I get both - not to mention a high-tech staff, well-trained staff, hipster soundtrack, and unbelievably respectful and nice staff.
