Yes, as good as it gets. I regret not writing a review way earlier when I dined here in April. Bad Jesse bad Jesse. I'll start with the space. The layout of the restaurant is super cool. When you walk in the bar (which looks like a bar that I used to belly up to in East Village) is right by the door so you don't immediately have to stand face to face with a hostess or host upon entering. I like that! Not that there is anything wrong with being greeted by a host or hostess upon entering a resturant. Nastrano's layout is just unique. What also unique is the wine and spirit selection. The carefully selected wines and hand crafted cocktails really brought the whole bar program to the next level for Madison. Whoever selects the wines definitely knows what they are doing. I love a notable selection of boutique wines and bubbles without the pretentious or stuffiness. The server made incredible recommendations to my partner. "if you like a sauvignon blanc try this Italian white" "This red blend drinks like a super tuscan and will pair well with seafood if you choose seafood for dinner". Also we had negronis made right. Equal parts sweet vermouth, campari, and gin.The quality of the bar ingredients were top notch and also carefully selected. Ok now for the food. The menu may seem a little intimidating for the average foodie but there was nothing intimidating about the knowledge and helpfulness from our server. Marinated olives were better than the olives I had in Sicily. Like others have written, the plating of dishes are as beautiful on the eyes as they are on the taste buds. We had the quail dish. Nice crisp skin and incredibly moist meat. Just the right amount of salt. The snapper dish was a home run too. I literally wanted to pick up the bowl and drink the brother that the snapper and squid where in. I didn't though. Instead, i sopped up that deliciousness with the grilled bread. Now on to dessert. This was the point of Nirvana at Nastrano. Sea salt and caramel gelato. Enough said. don't ask just try it and then order a second one. Trust me you will thank me for it.
