An easy 45 minute drive from Las Vegas, one of the major perks of Mary Jane Falls is that the trail is usually about 10-15 degrees cooler compared to the city. When you arrive you will first pull up to a parking lot which is actually a 2nd parking lot built to handle overflow parking. If it isn't busy, continue driving straight through that parking lot to the original parking lot which is much closer to the trailhead. This hike has free parking and admission too. My friend and I came here early around 7:30-8 am a week ago on a Saturday morning which was great because most of our hike was shaded and less crowded. The trail itself is well marked and mainly made of rocks. I would say this hike is easy to moderate, towards the end there are a couple of switchbacks that can be challenging. My friend and I powered through the hike with minimal stops for water, in total it took us about 90 minutes round trip. If you go at a more relaxed pace I would say maybe a little over 2 hours. The views from the hikes are a lot of trees mixed in with rocks as you ascend you get a view of the small valley. At the top of the hike, you might encounter two small waterfalls (we got lucky with recent rainfall) and a small cave (unfortunately covered in graffiti). Also if you have a dog, you can bring Fido along, as long as they are on a leash!
There were two things I did not enjoy about this hike. The bathrooms at the beginning of the hike were HORRENDOUS. One of the stalls was propped open with a trash can overflowing with garbage and the other one I went in had so many flies and smelled like a sewage plant! On top of that they ran out of toilet paper too. I know this isn't a 5 star establishment's bathroom and that I was outdoors, but man I've been on my fair share of hikes and this bathroom was one of the worst ones I've seen. I think I would have preferred going outside vs. using the bathrooms there. The other thing I didn't enjoy was the trash I saw left behind by other people such as beer cans and food wrappers, but I guess that's mainly people being assholes and can't really fault the place for it. Nice little hike to escape from the city for a little while. Make sure you bring plenty of water and some snacks, happy hiking!
