| - Felt compelled to write a review after my second visit. The two stars are an average of the two visits, one is a 4, one is a zero.
First time, after walking by a couple of times previously, was with my girlfriend. We sampled up a storm of pastries, some of which we took home. Everything is good and fun to eat.
Second visit, I'm sorry to say, I got caught up in the dreaded owner's negative mood and probably some shortcomings in getting a staff with a grand total of two other people to serve an ever growing line.
In this case I came in for an ice cream sandwich while a gentleman already in the shop, it turns out, was buying every last cookie. None of my business why. Not his fault. Good on the shop for attracting that kind of purchase. But, when I plainly ask "will there be any cookies left for ice cream sandwiches?" what I don't expect is a surly grunt of a non answer. Perhaps a basic apology or a suggestion to buy a scoop or frankly anything that makes one feel more desired as a customer is more in order. Had to walk out, since the line wasn't going to get moving for another 5 minutes anyway.
Can't go back in principle after seeing other concerned reviews here. Have to wonder if there is any amount of money the owner is unwilling to turn away. I'd suggest despite the high quality of the food, that with Toronto's burgeoning food scene it really is not good to see shops struggling to get how much competition there is out there and that customers can take their business elswhere.
So baked goods are recommended. Service definitely not recommended.
Those with thicker skin than I have will enjoy the place.
