My visit here left me sad about the state of our health care facilities & the lack of staffing.
It would seem when an MD sends someone in via ambulance that the ER would want to help them.
It is a bit blurry to me as I was in extreme pain.
They did not have anywhere to check me in so they took me off the ambulance stretcher and parked me in s wheelchair in the lobby.
I sat there in pain with the IV which the ambulance paramedics placed in my arm. They put it there so that I could get some immediate pain relief.
The paramedics were very kind & tried to get me some assistance.
Finally they checked me in & sat me in a chair. The nursing staff was very kind but still no pain help. After about 3 hours with no pain MEDS or even a glass of water... Only saline going in the IV. Finally they gave me a pain injection, which was in my upper arm, in the muscle. They explained it could not go in the IV as then they would need staff to kind of monitor me... Is that not why I went to the hospital? So the upper arm injection the nice nurse explained was going to take another 20 or so minutes to give me any pain relief.
They sent me for a blood test & some other tests. Minus the tests, I could have gotten more pain relief from a glass of Harvey's Bristol Cream wine.
They released me & wrote me an Rx for some lame medication for pain... Tramadol which I am allergic to... They could offer this or Motrin, as I was only an ER room patient???
The laws in Nevada have changed & providers are not really able to write what is needed without triplicate copies & making it a big deal.
Again, the Harvey's Bristol Cream was a much better choice, without the nasty allergic reaction.
Sad that our nurses have to work in places with insufficient help for the need. The patient sitting across from me had no insurance when they asked her... So they said she would then be a self pay. She shook her head & said something indicating she was not paying anything. Still she got the same care I got with my 30% co-pay for the ER.
Avoid the ER is my best advice. My first time in an ambulance ... The nurses said so many people use the ER as their primary care Doctor. I guess that is why it is so jammed up.
My only reason for the 3 star is because the staff was nice & apologetic... Otherwise it is a 1 star experience... We need a real healthcare solution!!!
