| - Who knew LV had something like this so close? Located off of Gibson not far from Cowabunga Bay and UNLV football stadium, this large nature park has a lot more than expected. There's ample parking and a nature center that holds various exhibits on the park's features and wildlife. Miles of paved and dirt trails for walking, biking and exploring make it a nice place to go for a little nature outing. A nice surprise was the little streams that intersect throughout the trails, and then the big reveal down towards the back of the park is the raging river that feeds into Lake Mead.
This place is ideal for outdoor exercise, but would be a great place for a family photography session, as well as nature/wildlife photography.
We noticed lots of dragonflies buzzing around with hummingbirds and saw a beautiful white egret fly overhead. Tadpoles and a snake were spotted in a tiny stream we walked along.
It's free to get into the park and there are signs that bikes are not allowed on some trails, however all the cement pathways seem bike friendly. Also, there's signs posted for no dogs, however we brought ours on a leash with plastic bags in case she had to do her business. I think they are concerned about dogs going to the bathroom and it not properly disposed of, or dogs bothering the wildlife.
Cons; the signage isn't very good, you could easily get lost at all the loops and intersecting walkways, (we did). There are red and large black ants everywhere, also, beware where you stop to admire the river or birds, they quickly crawl all over you.
Other than that, Wetlands Nature Park is a nice spot, we'll be returning.
