Pros:
- Our waitress was nice and attentive
- Fresh and moist cornbread
- Local ingredients and live music
Cons
- Drinks took an inordinately long time coming
- The food, while good, is overpriced
It's interesting and refreshing to have Southern flavors and dishes up in Wisconsin, but this restaurant - in my opinion - falls somewhere in between the categories of Southern homestyle cooking and upscale cuisine and doesn't quite hit its mark.
The food definitely aims high and offers ambitiously creative dishes, but the jalapeno butter would have been better as a smoother, blended butter and the truffles in the bacon truffle mac and cheese were not really used to benefit or elevate the dish and rather seemed like a missed opportunity.
The blackened catfish on cheddar grits, however, was fantastic. The spice blend on the catfish was perfect and all of the dish's flavors complemented each other well.
Ultimately, this restaurant is just fine. It's just not for me.
