| - I've been wanting to try Brat Haus forever, but with so many choices in old town, I hadn't gotten here until today. Well... Now I can say... been there; done that; never again. I met my brother there for a late lunch--it was mediocre at best. Tables in the bar area were sticky dirty and ones in other building not set for service. We sat in the bar building and just avoided putting elbows on table. Lol. (The menus were also filthy with dried mustard and other debris.) We should have left then and gone somewhere that values its customers more. But, undeterred yet, we persevered. To start, we shared a pretzel. It was okay--large but nothing special. There are lots of mustard choices on the table, but most of the house made ones had a weird aftertaste to them. Next, I had the sausage board and my brother ordered a beef dog, as he doesn't generally eat pork. The server brought him sausage by mistake. She was very apologetic and offered to replace with a hot dog, but my brother kept it when he confirmed they would have to throw the sausage out. (He doesn't like to see animal products wasted.) The sausage board was good--each served atop a relish/picked veg. We also shared an order of fries. They were decent but, again, nothing special. Although the server was pleasant, service was pretty awful considering how tiny the place is. At one point, I spilled half my soda. The mess of soaking wet napkins and ice sat in the middle of our table for about 15 min before we could get the bartenders attention to take it away. She never brought fresh napkins, despite asking three times, until my brother went to the counter to get them. (Beware, if you need extra, the replacements are bathroom paper towels.) Finally, we didn't ask for a comp, and my brother did eat the sausage, but it certainly would have been good business to acknowledge the screwup even a bit on the bill, but of course not. All in all, a disappointing experience. Really not sure what the hype is. There are so many fabulous restaurant choices in town, I'd advise picking somewhere else.
